The push of gas drilling into communities has already generated more than a neighborhood-full of potential conflicts. Don Young, over at FWCanDo (Citizens Against Neighborhood Drilling Ordinance), is in the middle of one.
FWCanDo is sponsoring an art contest, Buzzworms in the Backyard, seeking entries that "reflect citizen concerns about the negative impact and far-reaching implications of industrial drilling in their communities."
Young has asked the Fort Worth School District to let him hand out fliers promoting the contest to high school students. The district confirms it declined, and Young says an official there told him it was because of the "political" nature of the contest.
Young notes that the district participated in the recent Barnett Shale Expo (co-sponsored by the Star-Telegram), with the "FWISD Energy Contest." The poster contest was open to ninth graders "interested in learning about the natural gas boom." Entries had to be fashioned on one of five topics: 1) Where does natural gas come from, 2) What is the Barnett Shale?, 3) How do we get natural gas?, 4) How do we use natural gas?, and 5) and what are the benefits of using natural gas? "This contest serves as a pilot project for FWISD," the Expo says on its web site.
"Why is it OK for the FWISD to co-sponsor the...contest that glorifies the gas drilling industry and it is not OK for the FWISD to partner with FWCanDo for an art opportunity that tells the other side of the story?" Young said. He also suggested the school district has been "bought off" by gas rights leases it's signed.
Clint Bond, a FWISD spokesman, tells Blogging the Barnett Shale that the district was not a co-sponsor and notes it wasn't listed as such on the Expo site.
"The Fine Arts Department also tells me it is inundated every year with poster contest requests, but cannot accomodate most of those requests," Bond said. In FWCanDo's case, "the department leadership concluded that this community issue might be better left to other forums."

U.S. Crude Oil, Natural Gas, and Natural Gas Liquids Proved Reserves, 2008Total U.S. proved reevsres of dry natural gas rose by 6.9 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) from 2007 to 2008. That increase was on top of production of 20.5 Tcf (see Figure 1) and reflects another strong year of net proved reserve additions of natural gas in the United States. Figure 2 shows that natural gas proved reevsres are now at their highest level since EIA began reporting them in 1977. In 2008, dry natural gas proved reevsres attributable to shale reservoirs grew dramatically, up 51 percent to a total of 32.8 Tcf, or 13 percent of total proved reevsres of dry natural gas (Table 2). Of this, 8.9 Tcf was from discoveries and 4.2 Tcf was from upward revisions and other adjustments. In contrast to natural gas, reported crude oil proved reevsres declined by more than 10 percent to 19.1 billion barrels, despite a third year of increased discoveries (Figure 3).

Landman2: ok, I give up, give me your fax number and I'll fax you
my cover letter.

Again where in the lease filed in the Public Records of Tarrant County on September 17th does it say that 4-7's has to drill the well? Did you not see in the paper that they had previously sold leases they acquired to XTO & Chesapeake? Are you just trying to find a way to weasel out of your lease? That isn't being very ethical Beverley.

Landman 2--What I expect is for 4/7's to honor my lease with them.
Posted by: B. Humphries | November 28, 2007 at 12:17 PM
What do you expect it to say? What would you think if it said 4-7's is planning on flipping your lease to Chesapeake for $20,000 an acre?
Posted by: Landman 2 | November 27, 2007 at 06:32 PM
Landman 2--I am not kidding. It does say in my lease and cover letter that 4/7's will be drilling the well. Do you want me to
upload and post my lease on this blog? or I can fax it to Scott.
Posted by: B. Humphries | November 26, 2007 at 10:42 AM
So? Where in your lease does it say the company you signed with has to drill your well? If this were true half of the leases in Tarrant County would be invalid. You again are confused about the way this thing works!
Posted by: Landman 2 | November 24, 2007 at 11:05 AM
BC: The lease I signed is bogus. 4/7's isn't drilling any wells.
I am still waiting for that "Hurry up and sign WELL they were going
to drill 1/2 mile northwest of my property" Hurry, Hurry, Hurry
and sign, the well is going in, sign or be left out of royalties.
That was last July, its going into December now. I have looked and
looked and damn but I can't find a well pad site with a 4/7's sign.

DH- Don't be a fool--hold out until Easter and maybe you'll get
$15,000 and I'd insist on a Ham.

Hey everybody if I sign up with paloma before Christmas I get
$7.000.00 per acre and a free turkey. Can anybody beat that?

Bev - all of the above concerns ring hollow because you signed a lease. How can you be against the infrastructure that has to be there in order to have a producing well? 25% of nothing is nothing so you have to have pipelines, compressor stations & disposal well. Would you rather have them truck the wastewater to Wise County? At least you don't have to worry so much about people's well water if you have disposal wells in Tarrant County.

Cyber man, No what I am is a Taurus, a female with strong convictions on what is Right and Wrong., with little tolerance
for gray areas, deceptions, manipulations, bribes or cheating.
I hate liers, drunks, drug addicts, and now I hate big business
who are using all of the above to get mineral lease's in Tarrant
County from the home owners and tax payers, giving some mega bucks
and others squat, giving concessions to some, only to dump the toxic
waste and put the compressors on the one's who got squat. I'm not
stupid, I know this is what is going to happen. If the City can be
sued by the Energy Company's, so they can choose where and how many
disposal wells they want, what recourse do the citizens have against
them? With the excess leasing going on right now, are we going to
have a well on every vacant lot or corner in a neighborhood? When
will it stop? who draws the line? who say's enough is enough??
before this city is destroyed? and the people are dying? from pollution, fires, cancer and toxic soil and water? And don't tell me to Move. I own my family's home that was bought new in 1957.
I am not going to be railroaded into selling out to have a quality
standard of living, or a healthy, safe one.

BH it is all about the money with you. I may not agree with Sharon or Don Young, but at least they have the strengh of their convictions, you have none. The only reason you are ticked is because you did not receive the same bonus price as another person. Now you say you are worried about the environment. Poppy cock. You signed a lease with 4-7's did you not? I bet if 4-7's showed up at your door and offered you $15,000 an acre or for your lot you would jump. At least we know Don and Sharon would stand by their principles and convictions. You however are a hypocrite and a pharisee.

BH hurt Mongos feelings. We not infest anything. We are just pawns in game of life.
Posted by: Mongo | November 16, 2007 at 10:04 AM
Well BH actually I am a real estate appraiser and hold three degrees and have lived in this city for 12 years, and my wife has lived here all her life. BH I need to get you an appointment with Dr. Phil because you are a very disturbed man. Get a life and stop your dicatorial BS and acting like you are an expert because you are not. I do not agree with Sharon but at least her website has a professional quality about it, because all you do is blast away with your verbal shotgun. Fortunately this city has some very good citizens but you are not one of them.

Because I still own property in FW and therefore pay taxes, I have just as much say in this as anyone else.

Keep it up guys, you are making my point for me. That this city has
been infested. Its obvious you are landmen. You are showing your
lack of integrity as business people with every stupid thing you
have to say, especially when the best you can do is change the subject.

Calling all cars, calling all cars. Squad cars needed immediately at house of B. Humphries. Subject bullies like he is a masked large wrestler but may look like Don Knots. Subject has violent temper and may be headed to State Hospital. Beware, man has violent temper and can't get over 4-7's lease bonus payment.
Over and out.

BH, you are such an easy target, we need to play poker. Man it would just be a joy to clean you out. Like taking candy from a baby.
Posted by: Oklahoma Crude | November 15, 2007 at 01:26 PM
So BH we need regulation on making sure everyone get's fair market value on lease bonus? Would the same thing apply to pawn shops, used car sales, residential home sales, etc?
And the TRRC is in charge of that issue?
Fair market value is defined as what a welling seller and willing buyer or willing to negotiate at that moment in time. Markets change witness the New York Stock Exchange from day to day.
Come on. Stay on topic.
