Apparently none of you are reading the information about the drilling. How it's done, what comes after, how the economy will be affected.

You think Government Safety Standards are going to allow unsafe drilling in this day and age? You think we can keep using and not have to replenish?

Get a grip. Bunch of paranoid people.

Well I think it's unfair that Bedford did this - what right do they have to keep money from hard-working Americans! As for safety?! Um, hello - these rigs are usually pretty freaking safe!!!

I mean, I don't want them around MY house or anything, but I heard the oil folks talk on a commercial and they said it was safe. They also said they rarely make the paper with any incident at their wells! That's good enough for me.

I mean, granted when something does happen, there's an explosion or fire and families do have to get evacuated, but that's what they get paid for! And of course there's going to be ground pollution, but it's for OIL! I mean, yes, we need to reduce our dependence on oil and start respecting the environment better... and sure, these rigs pollute and the trucks and machinery ruin the roads and infrastructure that our tax dollars are going to have to pay for again... and, yeah, the money that comes with this does tend to corrupt people's morals as well as politicians with no sense of obligation to the community... and granted, the noise and lights and traffic around the wells are a big eyesore and nuisance... and...

...geez.

Maybe I should move to Bedford.

Bedford! You fools! How dare you try to ensure the safety of your residents? How dare you value peace-or-mind, clean air and water over the almighty dollar?

Way to go!

Go Bedford! Go Go Go!!!

You are the hero of urban drilling foes. You embolden hope for the forsaken and apathetic of Fort Worth and the surrounding region. You embrace principle in the face of lawsuit threats. You have chosen people over profits. Your challenge of medieval mineral rights law, never intended for urban dwellers, is heroic and long overdue.

The Star-Telegram editorial staff has declared war on FW and surrounding municipalities such as Bedford with their unequivocal endorsement of urban drilling and their support for mineral rights over the greater good, well being and human health of Barnett Shale residents.

The reasons for defending neighborhoods from urban drilling are many and have been clearly defined, documented and demonstrated. The editorial staff of the S-T is way out of touch with anything other than the money side of the equation. That's not surprising considering they are in on the take in more ways than one.

God bless Bedford for saving their community from the foolishness of short sighted greed. Despite the tyranny of the Star-Telegram/Chesapeake/Moncrief coalition, many of your neighbors are supporting your actions and ready to come to your aid.

Most of all, God bless Bedford residents for their courage to demand a better world for themselves and their children and for challenging the status quo.
