Exxon Mobil drills two unsuccessful shale-gas wells in Poland, but exploration in early stage

Irving-based Exxon Mobil Corp. drilled two unsuccessful exploratory shale-gas wells in Poland at the end of 2011, a top company executive said.

Fort Worth-based XTO Energy, a unit of Exxon, has been playing a signifcant role in the company's shale-gas drilling efforts.

Poland has enormous shale-gas resources, but drilling in shale formations there is in very early stages.
