Drillers of natural gas wells on federal lands will be required by U.S. rules to inspect their wells after hydraulic fracturing, a controversial process used in completion of wells to fracture dense underground rock and release trapped gas.
"To me, these rules are common sense," Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said. "You have some people say that this will kill the natural gas industry--that's very far from the truth."
