Natural gas drillers are asking for more time and input before Arlington implements an emergency preparedness and response program that would result in a $2,400 annual fee per well for the industry.

The industry gave too much weight in rewriting of the city's natural gas well ordinance. The only air provision was to ask for electric rigs, yet thanks to our retired, councilman LeBlanc, those rigs can only be somewhat mandated if it is to be within 450 feet and not 600 feet from a protected use. (Shepard asked for 600 feet, Mel wanted 200 feet and so they split the difference is what I recall during a day session). I like that the Firechief is getting input from the folks that specialize in well control and NOT the industry who usually goes for the cheapest route. I don't see why their undies R in a bunch cause drillers just add that permit fee into the other cost of production before the royalty checks are cut if your lease reads that way.
