Gasoline prices are continuing to rise in North Texas and are pushing the $3.50 mark for a gallon of regular. And that, of course, is the cheap grade.
The average price for regular in the Fort Worth-Arlington area is $3.49, up nine cents from a week ago and 23 cents higher than a month ago, according to a report today by auto club AAA, Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express.
Average prices for other fuel grades are: mid-grade, $3.65; premium, $3.80; and diesel, $3.83.
High oil prices and global trading by speculators have been cited as factors contributing to rising prices for gasoline, which is refined from crude oil.
The average U.S. price for regular is $3.51 and the average Texas price is $3.44.
In 2011, the average price for regular in the Fort Worth-Arlington area peaked at $3.90 in early May. The highest average ever for the area was $3.98 on July 16, 2008.
