The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.58 in the Fort Worth-Arlington area, after rising nine cents in just two days, according to a report today by auto club AAA, Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express.
The price is the highest ever for the area at this time of year and only 40 cents below the all-time high average of $3.98 set on July 16, 2008.
In 2011, the average price for regular peaked at $3.90 in early May.
Average Fort Worth-Arlington area prices for other fuel grades are: mid-grade, $3.74; premium, $3.88; and diesel, $3.89

Rising oil prices, market speculation and refinery shutdowns have been cited by analysts as reasons for the soaring pump prices.
