There were 36 active drilling rigs in the Barnett Shale this week, down two from a week ago, according to RigData. Wise County was busiest with nine rigs, followed by Tarrant with five, Montague with four, and Denton, Jack and Parker with three each.
U.S. drilling rigs declined by 13 to 1,826, as natural gas rigs fell another 11, to 416, and oil rigs slipped by two, to 1,408, according to oilfield service company Baker Hughes. Oil rigs accounted for 77 percent of active rigs, the highest since Baker Hughes separated oil and gas rigs in 1987.
