A 20-inch natural gas transmission line in West Virginia exploded Tuesday, destroying five homes and closing Interstate 77 for at least two days. The line belongs to NiSource, the area's local natural gas utility. The accident happens outside of Sissonville, in the west-central part of the state. Much of West Virginia is in the busy Marcellus Shale, but the area around Sissonville is not the busiest part of the field. Here's an Associated Press report and photo, above.
