Active drilling rigs in the Barnett Shale were unchanged at 32 as producers generally remain in portions of the North Texas field with more liquids, which attract better prices than natural gas. Two weeks ago the rig count hit 27, its lowest in at least a decade. Wise County led this week with nine rigs, followed by Montague and Tarrant with five each and Denton with four, according to RigData.
Nationally, the rig count slid a third straight week, to 1,752, said Baker Hughes. Rigs seeking crude oil rose by eight to 1,341, but that was offset as rigs seeking gas fell by 13, to 407, the lowest since May 1999. A year ago there were 1,973.
