The number of active drilling rigs in the Barnett Shale rose this week to 29, up three from a week ago, as the northern reaches of the North Texas gas field continued to draw attention. Denton County was the most active with six rigs, followed by Wise and Jack counties with five each, and Montague with four, according to RigData. Nationally, active rigs rose by nine, to 1,771, said Baker Hughes. Rigs seeking crude oil were up eight, to 1,410, gas rigs were unchanged at 354, and miscellaneous rigs were up one.
