Drilling rigs in the Barnett Shale fell by two this week to 27, near their 10-year low in the North Texas natural gas field, according to RigData. Denton County was the busiest with six rigs, followed by Tarrant and Wise counties with five each, and Montague and Jack counties with four each.
Nationwide, the rig count fell by six to 1,765, said Baker Hughes of Houston. Rigs seeking crude oil were down four to 1,406, natural gas rigs were unchanged at 354 and five rigs were classed as miscellaneous.
A year ago there were 1,984 active rigs.
