Active drilling rigs in the Barnett Shale took a big drop this week, falling by six to 32, according to RigData. The slowing was spread evenly around the field. Montague and Jack counties, in the "oily" region of the Barnett's northwest reaches, were the busiest with six rigs each, followed by Denton with five and Wise with four.
Nationally, the rig count was down 13 to 1,743, according to BakerHughes of Houston. Rigs seeking crude oil declined by five to 1,367, rigs seeking natural gas were down nine to 369, and miscellaneous rigs were up one to seven.
