Active drilling rigs in the Barnett Shale fell by five to 23, just off their 12-year low of 22 two weeks earlier, according to RigData. Jack and Montague counties were the busiest with five rigs each, followed by Tarrant with four and Cooke and Wise counties with three each.
Nationally, the rig count rose by 17 to 1,809, said Baker Hughes. Rigs seeking crude oil were up 18 to 1,461, rigs seeking natural gas were down one to 344 and miscellaneous rigs were unchanged at four. A year ago the count stood at 1,776.
