A reader in East Fort Worth tells us that a leasing company is approaching residents saying that it is representing Chesapeake Energy to make offers in the far-east Fort Worth neighborhoods of John T. White, Lowery Park and Cobblesone.
The reader said the offer is for $1,000 per acre signing bonus and 25 percent royalty. She wonders if a neighborhood group is organizing to negotiate a better deal, in light of the success in Ryan Place, Berkeley and Ryan Place, which wrangled a $10,000 per acre signing bonus and 25 percent royalty along with concessions to suppress disruptions caused by drilling and truck traffic.
Companies lease the mineral rights from individuals. But the standard lease in those neighborhoods gives residents a good guide to the going rates. Various observers have said that competition among drillers in the area and the desirability of the site helped those concessions.
Let us know if you've heard of anyone organizing in those areas of east Fort Worth. People want to know.
