A county sheriff in western Oklahoma has been charged with turning female inmates i
n his jail into sex slaves, the Associated Press has reported.
Custer County Sheriff Mike Burgess, who has resigned, reportedly coerced and bribed the women to take part. Prosecutors have filed 35 felony charges against Burgess, including 14 counts of second-degree rape, seven counts of forcible oral sodomy and five counts of bribery by a public official.
Burgess' attorney says the former sheriff is anxious to get to court and clear his name.
