The story about the 72-year-old Southlake man who has confessed to keying a lot of Hummers continues to get a lot of reader attention.
James A. Jeppe told police he was frustrated by family and financial issues, but he also railed against the "carbon footprint" left by the big sports utility vehicles.
An arrest warrant affidavit in the case -- always great reading if you can get your hands on one -- shows how Southlake detectives made their case.
Meanwhile, however, Star-Telegram columnist Bud Kennedy writes that there's plenty "haywire" with this story. Read Bud's complete column here.

Mr Jeppe's actions we very inappropriate and even criminal but I belive that he is a sympathetic individual if you love the planet and it's ecosystem. His reasoning is probably akin to Thomas Jefferson's personal motto i.e. "Disobedience to tyranny is obedience to God." Hummers, their owners and the beliefs that make Hummers seem reasonable to drive on city streets are a very destructive force in the world. Hummers are designed to carry troops in war/battle situations. In addition giving a teenager a shiny fast powerful dangerous and potentially deadly Hummer to drive is absurd on the face of it. I do not condone violence to Troop Carriers{Hummers} or the environment. Lets give Peace a chance. To quote Isaac Azimov "Violence is the last step of the incompetent."

Just a little info about the Hummer H2. It is a dressed up Chevrolet Tahoe, nothing more. It shares no parts with its namesake the Hummer H1, a vehicle similar to the military HMVEE the troop carrier mentioned previously. Also this so called friend of the earth was driving a 1998 BMW that averages around 2 miles to the gallon better than the Hummer H2. Not exactly a green vehicle.
