The Fort Worth Police Department has accepted an electric car from the environmental group Streams & Valleys.
The cart-like vehicle (left) is small enough to patrol the bike-and-hike trails along the Trinity River, which Streams & Valleys helped create.
The group's board of directors presented the "Gem Car" Tuesday to the City Council.
Streams & Valleys was formed in 1969 to plan, coordinate and help create recreational development on the Trinity River and its tributaries in Fort Worth and Tarrant County.
"Building trails, planting trees and providing access to the river are some of the ways that this non-profit organization ensures that the Trinity remains an important public amenity," according to information from the group.

I think this is a GREAT idea - will help keep an enforcement presence in areas all too often frequented by those with less honorable intentions toward runners, walkers, kids, etc. - I'd also like to see 'blue light' emergency phones along these trails -
