The Ellis County Sheriff's Department has announced the seizure of 28 assault rifles, 700 rounds of ammunition and loaded magazines that they said were concealed inside the legitimate load of a tractor-trailer rig. 
Deputies stopped the big-rig on April 9 on southbound Interstate 35 and got permission from the driver to search the vehicle, according to a release from Ellis County Sheriff Johnny Brown.
The driver agreed to drive the vehicle to a suitable location for the search, and drove the truck to the Walmart in Waxahachie, the release said.

After off-loading the legitimate load that was destined for Laredo, deputies said they found the weapons and ammunition inside, the release said.
A sheriff's spokesman said no information would be released on the driver or any possible charges until after the investigation is completed.

Please bear in mind that an rifle is
not an assault rifle unless it is
capable of fully-automatic fire.
If it is not, it is just a rifle.
Please try to remember this when the
term assault rifle sounds appealing.
