Report: Man cuts his throat in Dallas courtroom after sentencing

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that a Duncanville man slit his throat Tuesday morning inside a courtroom at the Dallas County Courthouse moments after a judge sentenced him to 40 years in prison.

Marcial Anguiano had just been sentenced after pleading guilty to aggravated assault for cutting his niece with a butcher knife, the newspaper reported.

"As soon as the judge sentenced him, I saw him do something with his right arm," defense attorney Juan Sanchez told the paper. "I turned and he cut himself with something he had brought into the courtroom."

Sanchez said that after Anguiano injured himself, he saw a razor blade on the floor, the Morning News reported.

Anguiano was later seen talking on a stretcher leaving the building with his neck bandaged, the Morning News reported.

8 die in Molotov cocktail attack on Cancun bar

Violence has hit the Mexican tourist city of Cancun where a Molotov cocktail attack on a bar has left eight people dead, NewsCore reported.

Six of the victims were women.

The bar is not located in a tourist area of the city, but reportedly had been the target of extortion attempts recently by the Zetas drug cartel, NewsCore reported.

Who's that girl in video tossing puppies in the river?

Animal rights investigators are trying to find a young girl, believed to be from Bosnia, who is shown in a video throwing what appear to be live puppies into a rapidly flowing river.

As the New York Daily News put it: "Even Cruella De Vil would be disgusted."

The video itself has been pulled from YouTube, but online investigators are combing links and Facebook profiles trying to find her, the Daily News reported.

Police: Man tortured, imprisoned girlfriend over Facebook message

Won't you be my friend? Apparently not in this case.

Police in Hanford, Calif., said that a man who was jealous because of a message on his girlfriend's Facebook page tortured and imprisoned her for four days, the Associated Press reported.

The whole time, their children were in the house, the AP reported.

Anthony Lozano, 36, is accused of suspicion of false imprisonment, kidnapping, torture and other charges after he reportedly saw something on the woman's Facebook page that led him to believe she was having an affair, the AP reported.

Texas-born accused drug kingpin caught in Mexico

There are reports out of Mexico that a Texas-born alleged drug kingpin wanted in the United States has been captured.

Known by the nickname La Barbie, Edgar Valdez Villareal, 37, was captured Monday in the state of Mexico adjacent to the capital, Mexican media reported.  It has been reported that his supporters have beheaded dozens of victims in recent months.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon confirmed the arrest in a Tweet, McClatchy Newspapers reported.

Man kills 5 in Arizona; takes 2 kids to California and kills himself

Police in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., say that man gunned down five people inside a home late Saturday -- including the mother of his two kids and her new boyfriend -- and then fled with the children to Southern California where he killed himself, the Associated Press reported.

The two children, ages 4 and 13 months, were found unharmed inside a home in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., where deputies found the body of the alleged gunman, Brian Diez, 26, the AP reported.

Mayor killed in town near where 72 migrants were massacred

More violence in the troubled northern Mexico state of Tamaulipas.

The Associated Press reported that the mayor of the Hidalgo was killed on Sunday by gunmen. The town is not far from where the bodies of 72 migrants were found last week gunned down by cartel assassins.

Mayor Marco Antonio Leal Garcia was the second mayor killed by cartel gunmen in the area in the past two weeks, the AP reported.

Survivor: 72 immigrants killed for refusing to be cartel assassins

Officials in Mexico say that the sole survivor of a massacre of 72 illegal immigrants at a remote northern Mexico ranch happened after they refused to work as assassins for the notorious Zeta drug cartel.

That's what officials were told by an Ecuadorian teenager who survived the massacre with wounds to his neck and face, MSNBC reported.

The teen played dead to escape the gunmen.

The massacre took place in San Fernando, about 100 miles south of Brownville, Texas in the state of Tamaulipas, MSNBC reported.

Ex-hand surgeon in TV ads accused of beating wife

You've probably seen him in the TV commercials touting his hand surgery clinics and family values.

A young girl sits in Michael Glyn Brown's lap at the end of the commercials -- common on Texas Rangers baseball broadcasts -- and chirps "Daddy's baby girl."

The former hand surgeon has been charged in Houston with beating his fourth wife, The Associated Press reports. The AP reports that court records indicate that he twisted her arm "as if he meant to break it" earlier this month.

He faces third-degree felony charges, AP reports.

Ex-FBI agent accused of threatening boss, estranged wife

A former FBI agent in Dallas has been arrested on charges that he threatened to harm or kill is estranged wife to kill the head of the Dallas FBI office.

Carlos Ortiz Jr. was taken into custody and his the wife is under protective guard, Channel 8 reported.

Ortiz already had been on leave and was under investigation for domestic violence, Channel 8 reported.
