The gunman who took hostages Wednesday inside the Discovery Channel's headquarters building in Silver Spring, Md., apparently hated the network's shows such as "Kate Plus 8" and its environment programming.
The first promoted population growth, he said, and the latter didn't do enough to save the planet, according to reports.
The gunman, James Jay Lee, was shot to death by police after several hours of holding three hostages when he was observed on a surveillance camera pointing pointing his gun at a hostage. He also was armed with canisters he identified as bombs strapped to his body, police said.
Lee was arrested in 2008 outside the building for disorderly conduct after a staging a "Save the Planet Protest," the Associated Press reported.
