An Ohio man got exactly what he asked for when he called 911 for a ride. But instead of getting a ride home, he got a trip to jail instead.
Fox 8 News Cleveland reports that a 34-year-old Elyria man by the name of William Hale was partying hard Monday night with a friend. When early Tuesday morning came around, he found himself in a tight spot without a ride home and called 911.
Hale told the operator that he was drunk and needed a ride home in order to meet a morning curfew, even breaking into tears at one point.
He ended up dialing 911 two more times before deputies with the Lorain County Sheriff's Department picked him up on the side of the road, so intoxicated he could barely stand up.
Officials said that calls like this put a strain on short-staffed police departments and take away from more important emergency calls.
Hale was arrested for disorderly conduct and improper use of 911. He remains in the Lorain County jail.
