A Lubbock man set his mother on fire before he went to a nearby school and held a teacher hostage at knifepoint Monday morning.
The Associated Press reports that George James Bradley, 32, was arrested for attempted murder and aggravated assault after he walked into the school office at the Rise Academy school at about 9 a.m. and announced that he killed his mother.
He asked a secretary to call police before he became aggravated, locked the office door and pulled out a knife, forcing a teacher into Superintendent Richard Baumgartner's office.
Baumgartner told AP reporters that he knew about the situation when he entered through a back door as his co-workers fled.
Bradley reportedly swung his knife at him but the teacher was given enough time to run out of the office to safety. Baumgartner told AP that he was grazed by the knife but the teacher was unharmed.
Bradley's mother is listed in critical condition with third-degree burns on her upper body.
