IRVING _ Two summer sports programs for students are set to begin next month at Irving school district middle schools.
The free programs called Summer Hoops/Kicks will begin on July 9 for kids ages 8 to 14. The programs end on Aug. 3.
The programs are sponsored by the Irving Police Deparment and the Irving Police Athletic League.
The Hoops program is for students agents 10 to 14 and focuses on basketball while the Kicks program is for students ages 8 to 14 and focuses on soccer.
Irving school resource officers and Irving patrol officers will be instructors for the programs.
The Hoops program will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Travis Middle School, 1600 Finley Road.
The Kicks program will be from 8 a.m. until noon at Austin Middle School, 825 E. Union Bower Road.
