A Fort Worth man accused of strangling his roommate rather than leave their apartment has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Louis Leon Dixon, 20, pleaded guilty to murder last week as part of a plea deal with prosecutors in the Sept. 5, 2010 death of Rashad McElroy, who was strangled with an electrical cord.
McElroy was trying to kick Dixon out of the apartment, said Tarrant County prosecutor Alicia Cannon. McElroy's relatives found his body three days later in a closet on the patio of the apartment in the 6000 block of Bridge Street.
Dixon confessed to the killing but maintained it was an accident. He was sentenced by state District Judge Louis Sturns.
