Officer Christopher Pasley died "as a result of an apparent accidental discharge while cleaning his weapon at home today," said Dallas Police Chief David Brown in a news release.
The incident was reported at 3:20 p.m. at Pasley’s home in the 1200 block of Sierra Blanca Drive in far south Fort Worth, according to Fort Worth police reports.
Officer Sharron Neal, Fort Worth Police spokeswoman, confirmed the man who died was Christopher Pasley, as did the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office.
Pasley was assigned to DPD’s Central Patrol Division after joining the department in January 2007, according to the DPD news release.
No other information was immediately available Monday night, but scores of condolences were being made for Pasley on the DPD's Facebook page.
The page also had a post about an unusual bust Pasley helped make last year on a couple who claimed they were speeding to the hospital to a deliver a baby, but the officers found something else.
