Shanellia Birdow said Tuesday that she couldn't explain her husband's actions, other than to say that he seemed to have some sort of mental illness.
Her husband, Derrick Birdow (below), on Monday attacked Rev. Danny Kirk Sr., bashing him to death with an electric guitar at the pastor's church in Forest Hill.
"I came here today because I'm sorry this happened," she said at a vigil for Kirk. "I'm hurting not only because I lost my pastor but also because I lost my husband.
"He was sick, really sick ... mentally ill."
Derrick Birdow was subdued by police with a Taser, but he died shortly after that.
