A 17-year-old died early Saturday when the pick-up truck he was riding in crashed into a telephone pole.
Bradley Mitchell, of Athens, died at 4:17 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
DPS Trooper Lonny Haschel said the crash happened in the 4300 block of View Road, a mile and a half west of Sanger.
Haschel said the 2005 GMC was driven by 18-year-old Tyler Curtis Monroe, of Sanger.
As Monroe was traveling west on View Road, the vehicle veered off the roadway, hit a telephone pole and sheered the pole in half, then continued west and struck a tree, Haschel said.
Mitchell died at the scene.
Monroe was taken to a hospital in Denton with minor injuries and later taken to the Denton County Sheriff’s office and booked on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter.
