Man jailed in slaying of Fort Worth family man who was protecting his stepson

Police say Tavira-Hernandez, his wife, and two stepchildren had just returned to their south Fort Worth apartment complex on the night of Nov. 19 when they were held up by a masked gunman.

Frightened, the 3-year-old stepson ran toward the family's apartment. When the robber ran in the same direction, police say Tavira-Hernandez chased him.

The robber then fatally shot Tavira-Hernandez.

Now a suspect is in jail.

Jacob Jordan Bright, 22, faces a charge of capital murder.
