A man suspected of fatally beating a Forest Hill church pastor with an electric guitar was defiant until the end, trying to prevent officers from entering the church and then narrowly avoiding being shot by one officer as he continued his deadly attack despite being ordered at gunpoint to stop, a report states
"I ordered (Derrick) Birdow (shown here) to drop the guitar and lay on the floor," officer Donnie Chesnut wrote in a police report about the bizarre Oct. 29 attack. "Birdow did not comply but rather looked at me as he raised the guitar for another strike."
Pastor Danny Kirk Sr., 53, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deanna Boyd received the police report through an open-records request. Read her full report here.

I see no mention of the actual restraint process used in this case. Being held down on the ground interferes with respiratory function, especially if someone is agitated, leading to rapid decline and death.
