Even Santa had to take cover.
Before killing himself, a gunman opened fire in a suburban Portland shopping mall Tuesday, killing two people and wounding another as people shopped for Christmas, authorities said.
Workers at Macy's, said they saw a man in a white mask and camouflage clothes carrying a rifle and wearing a bulletproof vest.
They heard the gunman say, "I am the shooter," as if announcing himself. He then fired several shots paced seconds apart.
"I heard about 20 shots and everyone hit the ground," one worker said. "That's when we all just ran."
Witnesses said the mall's Santa Claus was among those who ducked for safety.
