DALLAS — A federal judge sentenced a former postal employee to two years in prison this week for stealing a pair of earrings contained in an Express Mail parcel, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Edward Hampton III, 51, of Arlington, was ordered to surrender to the federal bureau of prisons on Jan. 16 to begin serving his sentence, a news release said. Hampton pleaded guilty in January to a charge of theft of mail by a postal employee.
Hampton was also ordered to pay more than $166,000 in restitution. Hampton admitted taking the contents of the parcel that was addressed to an Irving jeweler in February 2010. — Mitch Mitchell
