The murder of Sandra Martin became one of the top 10 telecasts of all time to air on the Investigation Discovery Channel, according to the website, TV by the Numbers.
The episode detailed the slaying of the 27-year-old Martin, who was bound, gagged and then fatally shot on Sept. 22, 1986 while her two young children watched television in a nearby room.
The murder went unsolved until 2009, until Fort Worth police linked fingerprints on the duct tape wrapped around Martin’s body to Jay Thayer Williams, a Dallas real estate agent who posed as a prospective buyer to get inside the Martin home.
In 2011, nearly 25 years after Martin’s death, prosecutors Kevin Rousseau and Tamla Ray prosecuted Williams for the murder and he was sentenced to life in prison.
Rousseau, Ray and Deanna Boyd, Fort Worth Star-Telegram reporter, were interviewed for the episode. Retired investigator for the Tarrant County district attorney’s office, Mike De La Flor, is also featured on the show. -- Mitch Mitchell
