The dog must have suffered a shotgun blast at point-blank range.
The Fort Worth veterinarian who treated the female Rottweiler said she was shot behind the right eye.
"The barrel was against her cheek when they pulled the trigger," said Dr. Tim Morton. "We actually recovered a plug from the shotgun shell.
"It was still in the entrance wound."
And yet the dog survived. Still, the Rottweiler, nicknamed Sandy, has a long recovery ahead.
