A bomb threat at the Devon Energy Plant in Bridgeport that shut down U.S. 380 for a few hours is over.
Law enforcement authorities with Devon Security, Wise County Sheriff's Office, Denton Fire Department Bomb Squad, Bridgeport police and fire, Texas DPS and the FBI searched the natural gas plant and found no explosive devices, according to a news release from Wise County Sheriff David Walker.
A criminal investigation will continue.
The threat brought back memories of the planned bombing of the Mitchell Energy & Development Corp. natural gas plant -- later purchased by Devon -- in the late 1990s. The bombing was to be used as a diversion for a bank robbery in Chico in the late 1990s.
Four members of the Wise County Klu Klux Klan -- dubbed the Keystone Klan and the Klu Klux Klowns -- were given federal prison sentences for planning the plot.
