A 48-year-old Hood County woman faces a misdemeanor charge after calling 911 to report “I need some cigarettes.”
The call, a copy of which has been obtained by the Star-Telegram, was placed at 1:18 a.m. Feb. 11, according to a press release by the Hood County Sheriff’s Office.
As the dispatcher tries to get the caller’s attention, a woman in the background can be heard telling the caller, “If you’re waiting on that son of a -----, you’re going to be waiting all night.”
“I’ll just call 911 and tell them I need cigarettes,” the caller replies.
The caller then tells the dispatcher just that and provides her address in Oak Trail Shores.
When asked her name, the caller tells the dispatcher “Gary Roberts.”
At the dispatcher’s request, the caller spells the first name before remarking, “Wait, I forgot how to spell my last name.”
“You said your last name was Roberts?” asked the dispatcher.
“No, I think I dialed the wrong number,” the caller responded.
After confirming her address one more time, the caller told the dispatcher thank you and hung up.
Responding deputies discovered that the woman was intoxicated and “thought it was funny to call 9-1-1 for cigarettes,” the release states.
The deputies found no humor in the call and arrested the woman, identified as Linda White, on suspicion of making an abusive call to 911, a Class B misdemeanor.
White was later released on a $1,000 bond, the release states.
