The Kaufman County killings investigation has shifted to a former local official who threatened the two victims after losing his job in a corruption probe, according to a new report.
Federal officials told the Los Angeles Times that the individual who emerged as a person of interest this week was convicted and placed on probation for stealing public property.
After he didn't get a plea deal, the individual threatened retaliation against DA Mike McLelland and ADA Mark Hasse, an official told the newspaper.
McLelland and wife, Cynthia, were gunned down in their Kaufman County home over the weekend. Hasse was shot to death outside his office in January.
After the person's arrest, investigators found he had numerous guns, a federal official said.
