David Liggins, 50, stepped out of a gambling house in east Fort Worth last month and was shot in the face.
Police made two arrests, but they wouldn't elaborate on a motive.
Affidavits in the case, however, show what investigators believe happened.
Liggins was winning a lot of money early Sept. 14, mostly from one of the guys now in jail, according to one of the affidavits.
Liggins announced he was taking a break and going to his car to make himself a drink. The suspect said he was going outside to urinate and left shortly before Liggins.
Witnesses heard a gunshot.
