The Arlington Police Department, like many local agencies, is cracking down on drunk driving this holiday season.
“Our officers will be working high-visibility enforcement along area roadways to locate signs of impaired drivers,” said Sgt. Steve Chao with the DWI Enforcement Unit.
Police are also participating in “No Refusal” operations, which began Monday Dec.16, and will continue through Wednesday, Jan. 1.
"No Refusal" operations involve search warrants to obtain blood specimens from people who are arrested for driving while intoxicated, but refuse to provide a breath specimens.
“We want the public to have a fun and enjoyable holiday season, but in a way that’s celebrated responsibly,” Chao said.
Police urged people who plan to drink at holiday celebrations to "plan ahead" by choosing a designated sober driver and having cab companies listed in your smart phone.
And, in the spirit of the season, APD has produced a holiday public service video (below), with Officer Ray Polk on the mike. Check it out.
