On Friday we reported that a man was shot during a robbery at a store on East Berry Street in east Fort Worth.
He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in critical condition with “possibly life-threatening” wounds, a MedStar spokesman said.
Since then, however, we've learned that police believe the man shot during the robbery was actually the robber, and he was shot by a clerk.
Here's an update from Cpl. Tracey Knight, police spokeswoman:
"On Friday, Jan. 17, 2013 at approximately 7:15 p.m. patrol officers were dispatched to 936 East Berry, the Berry 99, responding to a robbery call. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the suspect attempted to rob the store and was subsequently shot by the clerk. The suspect was transported to a local hospital via MedStar. The Robbery Unit responded and is handling the investigation. The medical condition of the suspect is unknown at this time."
By the way, an initial police report stated that the suspect was under arrest when he was taken to JPS. The report says he's a 37-year-old man with an Arlington address.
We also tried to check his medical condition at the hospital, but were unsuccessful. We'll let you know if that information develops.
