Lots of deadly violence has been inflicted lately on children in Texas and elsewhere. And much of it was at the hands of their parents. See what we mean in this latest Texas Roundup:
Before and after Nidia Yolibeth Alvarado gave birth at University Hospital on Dec. 20, she displayed many of the warning signs of a mother who might commit infanticide. But police say she told them that a day after she was discharged, she strangled her son, known as "Baby Boy Mendoza."
Shakeitha Cartwright, 30, of Center has been sentenced to life in prison for the death of her 5-month-old daughter, Keilly, who a year ago was beaten, bitten and smothered. The woman received an automatic life prison term.
Police say Miguel Mejia-Ramos is a suspect in the stabbings of 1-year-old Yaslin Mejia, 2-year-old Daniela Mejia and their mother, 21-year-old Deisy Garcia. The bodies were discovered Sunday night in their Queens apartment. Police tracked his cell phone and stopped him early Tuesday on I-10 near Schulenburg.
