UPDATE: Here's the latest from Fort Worth police on the death of Stewart Trese:
Our early report:
A student at Texas Christian University was found dead early Tuesday at an apartment bulding on the southeast side of campus.
Stewart Trese, 23, a marketing major from Fort Worth, was identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner. Time of death was 9:22 a.m. in the hallway of a unit at the GrandMarc Apartments at Westberry Place, 2855 W. Bowie Street.
Sgt. Kelly Peel, Fort Worth police spokesman, told TCU 360 that the case was being investigated as a possible suicide.
However, Cpl. Tracey Knight, police spokeswoman, stressed that cause of death “has not been determined.”
“Meaning,” she added, “we don’t know if it is a suicide or not, but Homicide is investigating.”
TCU owns the land where the apartment building is located, but GrandMarc “manages the property” and "TCU leases some rooms from GrandMarc,” said Holly Ellman, a spokeswoman for the university.
TCU officials said in a statement that campus police were working with Fort Worth detectives on the case.
They urged students with information to call Fort Worth Police at 817-392-4300.
“As always, we are saddened by the loss of this member of our community,” officials said in the statement. “If you need any assistance with the grieving process, TCU Counseling Center is available at 817-257-7863.”
This case is not the only one involving a TCU student in recent weeks.
In late December, Clay York, a recent TCU graduate, was found dead in New York City.
