Headline: Benbrook P.D. to use Can Am Roadster
Residents of Benbrook will soon be seeing a new police vehicle on patrol.
The police department recently received a Can Am Roadster, manufactured by Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), for use as a traffic enforcement unit. The vehicle was obtained through a dealer loaner program from Granbury Motorsports.
According to Police Chief James Mills, Benbrook will be the first agency in the region to use the three-wheeled Can Am Roadster.
“This vehicle offers some distinct advantages over a two wheeled motorcycle,” he said. “With a vehicle stability system, traction control, and anti-lock brakes, it is much safer than a traditional motorcycle.”
The new vehicle will be used for traffic enforcement in select areas of the city. “With all the road construction about to begin, we want to increase compliance rates, especially along the main corridors in the city,” Mills said.
Mitch Milson, owner of Granbury Motorsports, said he was very pleased to offer the vehicle through the loaner program.
“This was a good opportunity to support a local law enforcement agency,” Milson said.
The department will have the vehicle on loan, at no cost, for one year. During that time, officers will evaluate the performance and effectiveness of the vehicle.
