“I just accidentally shot my best friend,” a distraught teen told 911 dispatchers last August. “We’re at my grandpa’s ranch in Bowie. We were hunting coyotes. I accidentally shot him with a .22 in the head.”
Michael Bryce Underwood, the 18-year-old Sanger youth, was sentenced Monday to five years’ probation after pleading guilty to criminally negligent homicide.
The charge resulted from the fatal shooting of friend Nate Maki, also 18, in Montague County.
Under added probation terms, Underwood must finish high school and speak at a gun safety class within the year.
