Wounded Fort Worth cop kills suspected robber

A robbery suspect was shot and killed by a Fort Worth police officer who was wounded in the exchange of gunfire following a robbery this morning, police said.

The officer, an eight-year veteran, was shot in the leg and was listed in good condition at JPS.

The officer, who was not identified, was responding to a robbery call at Whataburger in the 6400 block of Brentwood Stair Road shortly before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“The officer saw either money falling out or being thrown by the suspect,” said Police Chief Jeff Halstead in a news conference. “The officer who was still in his car chases the suspect who was on foot.”

Fort Worth police seek robber who targets insurance offices, cellphone dealers

Police say this man has been all over Fort Worth for the past month, robbing five insurance offices and three Metro PCS stores.

Police on Tuesday released video surveillance, hoping someone might recognize him.

The latest robbery was Monday at Baja Auto Insurance in the 3300 block of North Main Street, police said in a news release. The first was Jan. 3 at A Max Auto Insurance in the 6400 block of Meadowbrook Drive.

"He is considered to be armed and dangerous," said officer Daniel Segura, a police spokesman.

Clerk pistol-whipped by woman in Keller sandwich shop robbery

Seen this woman?

Keller police released a composite drawing of her on Tuesday.

They hope someone will identify the suspect in a sandwich shop robbery Sunday in the 800 block of Keller Parkway.

A clerk was pistol-whipped during the crime, police said.

The robber got away with an undisclosed amount of cash from the Subway restaurant.

Houston-area man gunned down for his sneakers, police say

Last Friday,police at Hulen Mall in Fort Worth used pepper spray to disperse an unruly crowd waiting to buy the re-release of the popular red and black Air Jordan shoes.

That got a lot of attention when it happened, but consider the case out of Houston, where a young man actually died for his shoes.

Joshua Wood, 22, was fatally shot, also Friday, as he tried to escape armed robbers who wanted his new Air Jordan XI "Bred" sneakers. The shoes retail for about $185.

Your Blotter: More shooting and looting in Fort Worth

Fort Worth police were looking for the person who shot and wounded two men early Friday.

The shooting occurred 12:37 a.m. Friday outside a club in the 4500 block of Miller Avenue.

A police report identified the victims as brothers Antywine Garrett, 23, and George Garrett Jr., 28. Both were taken to the hospital.

3741 E. Berry St. -- On Friday, Nov. 9, around 2:45 a.m., officers responded to this location in regards to a robbery call. Officers met with a 25-year-old woman who said that she got a ride home from a female acquaintance at work and her male friend. The suspects assaulted the victim, took her wallet and phone and fled. The victim has minor injuries and was not transported by Medstar.

3004 Van Horn Ave. -- On Friday, Nov. 9^, around 12:25 a.m., officers responded to this address in regards to a robbery call. Officers met with a 27-year-old woman who said a man with a gun forcibly entered her house. A neighbor heard the victim scream and the gunman left the location without any property. Officers searched for the man but were unable to locate him. Robbery detectives are continuing the investigation.

Bandit dressed like construction worker getting meaner, police say

Police are still trying to identify an armed robbery suspect whose disguises since June have ranged from a construction worker to a cowboy.

And they're eager to catch this guy.

He is armed and his "aggressiveness toward the victims is rapidly increasing," police said in a release.

He has ordered employees onto the floor and threatened to kill them.

Investigators believe he may be responsible for 16 aggravated robberies in Fort Worth and surrounding cities since June.

He appears to target Metro PCS stores and check cashing businesses.

North Richland Hills police seek robber of Texaco on Davis Boulevard

Police have released photos of a man being sought in the recent armed robbery of a Texaco station in the 6700 block of Davis Boulevard in North Richland Hills.

The holdup happened Sunday evening, according to a news release from Inspector Keith Bauman.

"The suspect (shown here) entered the store and produced a handgun from his pocket, then demanded the clerk give him the money from the register," Bauman said. "The suspect took money, Lotto tickets and cigarettes.

"Additionally, the suspect forced the clerk into an office and threatened to kill him."

Pharmacist takes a bruising but fights back in Arlington

An Arlington pharmacist fought off a would-be robber during the weekend by shooting at him after he was beaten with an iron tool, Arlington police said Monday.

The bandit, who was wearing a shiny black mask and a hooded jacket, walked into Arlington Pharmacy Saturday morning and demanded prescription drugs. He then started using the tool to beat the pharmacist, who told police that he went to a safe where he grabbed a pistol and shot at the suspect, possibly wounding him.

The robber hit the victim a few more times before he fled the business, said Arlington police, who are looking for a suspect.

The robbery attempt occurred about 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the pharmacy in the 800 block of the Road to Six Flags in Arlington.

The pharmacist was treated for cuts and bruises.

Weatherford police looking for this man

Weatherford police hope the public will help identify the man whose image was caught by video surveillance (photos shown here) shortly before an armed robbery last week.

Investigators believe this man was casing the store, about 2:30 a.m. Sept. 19, at the On the Run Exxon in the 1800 block of South Main Street.

The man was described as being black, in his 30s, about 160-170 pounds and about 5-feet-10 inches tall. He was dressed in black, including a black ball cap.

He bought some candy and left, but he was soon followed by another man who pulled a camouflage cover over his face, produced a handgun and told a clerk to hand over money or he’d hurt her.

The gunman fled with an undetermined amount of money in a red or maroon four-door sedan.

Robbery victim clubbed, sent to hospital

A man was taken to a hospital by family members after he was struck with a club by someone who tried to take his wallet Monday.Fort Worth police officers were called about 3 a.m. to the 3200 block of Northwest 30th Street. The victim said he was on his front porch when he saw a man walking down the street, the police report said.The victim told police that the suspect called out to him, and the victim walked out to meet the suspect, the report said.The suspect struck the victim on the head with a club and attempted to take the victim’s wallet.The suspect has not been found, the report said.
