'Most wanted' sex offender, convicted of 1995 crime in Fort Worth, caught at the border

A 43-year-old man on the Texas Department of Public Safety's 10 Most Wanted sex offender list has been arrested in El Paso.

Officials say Juan Alfredo Gandarilla turned himself in Monday to Border Patrol authorities at the Bridge of the Americas in El Paso, telling them he didn't want to be arrested in Mexico, according to The Associated Press.

Authorities described him Wednesday as a high-risk sex offender with a lengthy criminal history that included conviction for molesting a 9-year-old girl in 1995 in Fort Worth.

Fort Worth man, listed among 'most wanted' sex offenders, nabbed in Austin

A Fort Worth man who has been listed as one of Texas' "10 Most Wanted" sex offenders was arrested Monday in Austin, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS officials said Lloyd Lester Gibson III, 67, was "a high-risk sex offender whose most common offense was to expose himself to underage girls."

Gibson was arrested by the U.S. Marshal Service's Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, which includes the DPS.

"He was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender in Fort Worth and (a) parole violation," according to a DPS news release.

Texas 10 most wanted fugitive tied to Aryan Brotherhood caught in California

The U.S. Marshals Service arrested a Texas DPS 10 Most Wanted fugitive Friday who had outstanding warrants here and South Dakota, Minnesota, Indiana and Texas. Wanted by the Texas Department of Public Safety for parole violation from a forgery offense, Paul Joseph Borrenson,57, had been “identified as a member of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas and was considered to be armed and dangerous.” Borrenson was nabbed in the Eastern District of California after receiving a tip by the Fresno Rescue Mission that someone had seen a person matching Borrenson’s description. Officers made contact with the subject, who initially provided a different name. Further investigation identified him as the fugitive.

His crimes include: "Assault, Grand Larceny, Auto Theft, Forgery, Fraud, Possess Stolen Property, Obstruct Police, Fleeing Officer, False Report/Police, Fugitive from Justice, Flight/Avoid Prosecution, Commercial Sex Offenses, Drug Offenses, and DUI," according to DPS.

No incidents were reported in his capture. A reward of up to $7,500 was paid, according to the DPS website.

Facebook chats are undoing for fugitives hiding in Texas

Latest lesson for fugitives: You can run, but you can't hide on Facebook. A husband and wife facing 20 counts of rape, incest, sexual abuse and sodomy in Kentucky fled shortly after their arrest in 2007. Jerry Lee Callahan and his wife, Rebecca, came to Texas, where they applied for driver licenses here and even posted on Facebook, a Kentucky TV station reports. Facebook, not the driver license applications, was their undoing. They chatted through Facebook with an acquaintance, who alerted authorities, Police tracked the IP address and captured the couple in Victoria County, Texas. 

Wanted: Fugitive accused of stealing millions donated to help U.S. vets

A man who called himself Bobby Thompson founded the U.S. Navy Veterans Association, a charity that was supposed to provide assistance to military veterans and active service members. But Thompson - whose real name is unknown - disappeared with much of the $100 million the organization raised nationwide, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. They're asking the public's help in finding him. He used a number of aliases, including “Ronnie Brittain” and “Elmer Dosier.” The suspect is in his middle 50s to early 60s, 5’8” tall and about 160 lbs and is believed to be a heavy drinker with a volatile temper. Tipsters may remain anonymous and a cash reward may be available.

Texas fugitive charged with murder, sex crimes with children

In Texas, Daniel U. Perez became a fugitive after being convicted in the 1990s of sex crimes against children. Now, the 52-year-old has been arrested in Kansas, accused of murder, rape and multiple counts of sex crimes against children, according to The Wichita Eagle. Police say Perez lived on a compound, where he murdered a 26-year-old woman who also lived there. He also faces 36 other charges including rape of a 10-year-old, sodomy of a 10-year-old and sexual exploitation of an 8-year-old, the newspaper reports. Neighbors have told police that an unusual number of deaths have been associated with Perez. In Texas, Perez was convicted in1997 of of multiple counts of felony indecency with a child but fled before sentencing.  

Police: all that glitters...may be stainless steel

A fraud ring ripped off people in Texas, Arizona and other states with fake gold jewelry, authorities say. The group would buy large quantities of stainless steel bracelets and necklaces, stamp them with 14k and 18k, and sell them as gold, an Arizona TV station reports. Two people have been arrested, but police are seeking the alleged mastermind, Edward Brueggemeyer, and four other suspects. Authorities think Brueggemeyer could be in Texas, the station reports. Chandler, Ariz., police are working with Texas law enforcement officials and others. 

Fugitive fraudster found in Florida

After Michael R. Rouse was found guilty of 9 various fraud offenses involving Golden Gate Real Estate Trust, a judge ordered him to stay in the Metroplex area until sentencing. So, in what must have been a shocking development for someone who had cheated at least 62 people out of $1.9 million, a month later Rouse went on the lam. He got sentenced in absentia to 210 months in prison. Now, deputies with the U.S. Marshals Service nabbed Rouse in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Rouse, 56, may join convicted co-conspirator James A. Testa, 61, of Carrollton in spending their golden years in the federal pen. The two men used investors' money to pay themselves big salaries and pay for personal expenses, such as Mercedes Benz automobiles that cost more than $125,000 each. 

Armed, dangerous...and smells like dirty socks

Police have been searching for more than a week for a murder suspect they said was armed and dangerous. Hondo police and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force found the suspect at a San Antonio home - hiding in a laundry basket, a San Antonio TV station reported. No word on if he came clean to authorities. He is suspected of fatally shooting one man and injuring another in Hondo.

Suspect in child's rape hiding out in Texas, police say

A massive manhunt is under way for Charles Allen Dyer, who faces a charge in Oklahoma of sexual assault of a child. Dyer was spotted Sunday in Sealy, Texas, according to an Oklahoma City news station. The FBI said that Dyer, 31, should be considered armed and dangerous.
