A Fort Worth police officer who was supposed to be monitoring sex offenders is accused of falsifying time sheets and has been fired.
Abron Jernigan, was a 21-year veteran of the department.
Officials said they put him under surveillance. They said they saw him at home or making personal visits, also doing yard work, when he was supposed to be on the job.
"The failure to monitor the registered sex offenders poses a significant risk to the citizens of Fort Worth," states a disciplinary letter, signed by Police Chief Jeffrey Halstead.
Jernigan's lawyer claimed that Halstead arbitrarily deals with time cheaters.
"What blows me away is this chief's inconsistency in the way he disciplines officers accused of falsifying time sheets," said Jernigan's attorney, Terry Daffron Porter.
