The Crime Time blog, by its nature, is a steady report of unsavory characters and their infamous deeds, so it's refreshing to read about a convicted felon who is making a positive contribution to society.
Armando Villarreal III (right) was an accomplished gunsmith in Laredo, but he ran afoul of the law in 1994 for illegally manufacturing a machine gun.
Staff Writer Noor Elashi reports that Villarreal did his time, but emerged from prison intent on pursuing a different direction.
Now he teaches history at Tarrant County College.
