Kyle Darroca, of Lewisville, was killed Wednesday when he fell off his skateboard while "skitching" in a Flower Mound elementary school parking lot.
Skitching is when a skateboarder, rollerblader or bicyclist holds onto a moving car, truck and even train to gain speed. It's all the rage these days, but it's illegal.
Kids get hurt and die often from skitching, in fact on Sunday a Portland teen died whie skitching. Here's that heart wrenching story in The Vancouver Columbian.
A quick Google search will show you just how extreme this sport can get and many sites warn watchers not to "try this at home."
Lots of people skitch while their friends drive, but there's the whole other thrill of hanging on to cars that don't know someone's skitching on the back. Skitchers will crouch really low so drivers can't see them hitching a ride as their friends get a good laugh.
YouTube has a ton of videos showing kids, some that look like babies, hanging on to the trunk of a car at 20 mph screaming expletives at the top of their lungs until they wipe out. Many videos also depict skaters showing off their bloodied arms and legs afterward.
Here's the cleanest version of skitching I could find on YouTube.
