FW Fortune 500 company looking to fill 1,000 jobs

In what is likely to be one of the largest single-day job fairs, Aerotek, a provider of recruiting and staffing services, is hosting a job fair Saturday to fill 1,000 contract manufacturing positions for a Fortune 500 company in Fort Worth.

That’s a ton of jobs, yet Aerotek is not naming the company.

"It’s up to the discretion of the company," said Heather Woolford, a public relations professional who works with Aerotek. And in this case, the company didn’t want their name out there, she said.

The way it works, the company contracts with Aerotek to fill the positions and those individuals become employees of Aerotek. Depending on the number of hours a week the position requires, fulltime employees can be eligible for benefits from Aerotek, she said.

The positions will be filled within a couple of weeks of the job fair and the contract right now will run indefinitely, Woodford said.

The job fair runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn, 4635 Gemini Place.

The positions include assembler 1 and 2 levels, material handler, forklift driver, test technician, test operator and quality inspector. The potential contractors also must be willing to work weekends and overtime, as needed.

Pre-registration is not required. Interviews will be conducted onsite. Candidates must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and have legal authorization to work in the U.S. Attendees should bring references, a resume and recent certification, relevant to the position applying for.

Fort Worth's Morningside Middle School gets aggressive in helping families find jobs

Fort Worth’s Morningside Middle School is taking the lead in trying to help family members in its community find jobs.

The school, in partnership with the Southeast Kingdom Neighborhood Association and the Fort Worth Housing Authority, is hosting a job fair, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., May 17 at the school, 2751 Mississippi.

The Housing Authority will hold two resume tutorial sessions, 1:30 p.m. May 8 at the Housing Authority, 1201 E. 13th St.; and 8:30 a.m. the morning of the job fair at the school.

Carlos Walker, who grew up in Morningside and became the school’s principal this year, moving from a post as vice principal at O.D. Wyatt High School, said 94 percent of his school’s 725 students are on free or reduced price lunch.

“We can’t do it all at the school anymore,” Walker said, of the idea to host a job fair. “We’re now in the 21st Century, and we have to change the way we do business.”

The team has been publicizing the job fair for the last few weeks, and has lined up 25 exhibitors so far, including the Navy and trucking companies looking for drivers, Walker said. The fair is free to job seekers and exhibitors, and Walker said he’s still seeking more exhibitors.

“Basically, anyone who will hire anybody with a high school diploma,” he said.

There are few job opportunities around Morningside, and jobseekers often tend not to venture very far looking for work, so the aim is to bring the jobs to them, Walker said.

The tutorials are also free. “We’ll help them with their resume and do a little coaching,” Glenn Nixon, job developer at the Housing Authority, said.
